Get Ready to Shake Out!
Today we practiced our Earthquake Drill: Drop, Cover, Hold.
Everyone knew what they needed to do and quickly got under the tables to drop, cover, and hold.
I wonder if you know how what to do in an earthquake?

Writing in Tanemahuta: Describing the setting
Last week we were learning how to describe the setting for a story. We had to look at our picture, think about the time and place our story would be set it. When we were writing we included lots of description including what our senses would feel if we were there - what would we see, smell, taste, hear, feel?
Tanemahuta had to think very hard and they have come up with lots of creative ideas.
I wonder which setting you think sounds the most peaceful? I wonder which setting you think sounds the scariest?

Book Character Day at Makaraka School
Today we got to dress up as our favourite book characters and donate money to the Salvation Army. Eilidh and Malia (from Tawhirimatea) organised this event as part of their Aurora Leadership learning. They did a fantastic job promoting the event, running the parade and getting people to share their love of reading with others. Well done girls!
There were lots of different characters from a wide variety of books. We got to have a parade to show off our costumes to each other. After the parade we paired up with somebody from a different year group and got to complete some buddy reading. All the staff were impressed with how engaged all the learners were.
Have a look at some of the photos below. I wonder if you can recognise anyone?
